A very cool palette,
whose ??? Carrie Lewis paints while her Sherpa, Jim, works.
Mary and Rick write:
What a weekend to behold............. It was a great turnout for
painters and collectors alike........ We had 48 artists signed up for
the event, there were 8 no shows, so 40 artists participated, and 21 of
these artists sold a painting or more. A total of 51 paintings were
sold, according to the final tally sheet from Lakeside!!!!
I have
placed photos from Dave Smith and a couple from Alex
(the Marketing director of Lakeside) onto the OPAS Member List Serve. Alex is sending me a
CD with all
photos that she took of the weekend. She said it took 45 minutes to
download from camera to computer. Members who have registered for
the list serve may add more photos to the Lakeside photo album.
Lakeside and I are already in the works to plan for next
year as well. It was a fun weekend for all. There are a few bugs to
work out for the future, and hopefully, it will make it better for all
of us.
Lakeside Association, OPAS, and the C. K. Rhein center
made this possible. I want to thank the OPAS board for approving monies
to help with the meal for the artists. Lakeside donated the day passes
and car passes, plus the manpower to make this work. The Rhein Center
donated time and money to prepare the flag sticks, and screen printing of
the flags, and the space for the meal. The donation of money for the
meal will help to buy more lights for their space.
The big thank you goes to the artists who came to paint
at Lakeside. The community enjoyed talking, giving shelter from the
rain, serving drinks, etc. I have home owners already volunteering
their Lakefront home for bathrooms, water, shelter for next summer. The
artists painting around Lakeside make it a magical weekend. I hope
everyone enjoyed the time over this four day weekend. Lakeside community sure did
and want us to come back next summer.
More photos are coming.

"This is my rain
story."
My rain story...the flies were
biting me so bad I quit painting and got back to the Garvericks just
as it poured rain, so I was one of the few dry painters. Judy
Fischer Walton

L to R : Barb Chenault
(I think), Accordian Man (there was a fiddle player too at one point)
playing some great Irish music, and Debra Joyce Dawson working on her
painting of Jack Liberman through the hollyhocks.

Rick Dziak at the sale on
Sunday, wiping paint from a frame that blew over in the wind, Rosemary
Schramm capturing those lovely hollyhocks that lined the lakeside, and
Nancy Hawkins working on one of the many paintings she completed
during the weekend.

Joe Lombardo painting
during the Wooden Boat Show, Jack Liberman is a great site to see in
his great straw hat and his old pipe aglow, and Jimmie White with
another one of his great complex architectual paintings.

Carrie Lewis at the
wet paint sale.

LAKESIDE,
PAINTOUT OR COMPETITION?
As a new OPAS member, I also want to
thank Mary and Rick and all the friendly OPAS painters. I had a
wonderful time at Lakeside and I realize all the work that went into
making it sucessful. It was a wonderful place to paint, the Saturday
evening meal was delicious and the sale was terrific. My rain
story...the flies were biting me so bad I quit painting and got back
to the Garvericks just as it poured rain, so I was one of the few dry
painters. Judy Fischer Walton
This is an amazing report! Wow!
My loving Sherpa, Dennis, might have
been bored if it weren't for the wonderful perk of nightly shows in
Lakeside to which artists and Sherpas had free admittance! He likes
to fish, but he found the shows much more exciting! Will this "perk"
be available, or do I need to "change gears" for the fall 2009
paintout / competition and find something else for my
sweetheart to do while I'm painting? Thanks again!! Magical!!!
Yes!!! Donna Pierce-Clark
What a nice plein air paintout you
organized. Our Evening Song bed & breakfast hosts came to the
show on Sunday were delighted to see all the paintings of their
"hometown". We enjoyed the good Lake Erie perch sandwiches too. Edy
& Louie Martin
You certainly can tell when poeple
are didcated to the cause!! Mary and Rick certainly are. How on
earth did I miss Rick's seminar on plein air painting??? Also since
the competition will be in Lakeside 2009-10, is there anything going
on there in September? I assume there will not be a paintout in July
at Lakesdie??? Thanks a bunch. Judy Griffiths
