MEMBER NEWS:
2008

MARK DeLONG
participated in the Annual Punta Gorda Plein Art
Festival, where one of Mark's pastels got an
Honorable Mention. Both paintings he did that
day were sold. Way to go Mark! Mark painted
during February with both the Punta Gorda and
Pine Island Plein Air Groups. Florida colors are
a real treat and being outdoors again felt
great. "Painting with these groups made me
appreciate how good our OPAS group is and I'm
looking forward to the next year."
BRYAN ROBERTS
was invited to participate in a two-man show at
Muskingum College. The plein air and studio
artworks are on exhibit from February 26-March 24
in the Louis O. Palmer Gallery of Johnson Hall.

ANASTASIA HOROWITZ
was scheduled to open her first solo exhibition at
the Lyle Gallery in Columbus on March 8. Due to
the blizzard, her opening has been rescheduled for
March 29th, 6:15 PM. Show runs through April 6.
DOREEN ST. JOHN
did open her solo exhibition at Jules in
Canton on March 8. Exhibition may continue for 2
months.

Honorary Member MICHAEL
McEWAN juried the Worthington Area Art
League winter exhibition. OPAS members
GARY CHACONAS, RICH CLEM,
VIVIAN RIPLEY, BOB TANNER, SHERRY MULLET &
JIM GLOVER were among those who
received awards for their work.
RAY HASSARD
won First Place in the Landscape/Interiors
category of Pastel Journal's annual competition
for The Ketchup Trilogy. The April 2008 issue
shows the "100 Exceptional Paintings" chosen from
over 5000 entries. The juror, Susan Ogilvie, also
chose one of Ray's pieces Tall Stax Dawn for an
Honorable Mention.
Ray also had two pieces from his Bump! series accepted
in the PaintAmerica 2007 competition. One
piece was chosen for the Top 100, the other for
the Mini 50 category, with the latter given the
Director's Choice award. The entire show is online
at

and will be travelling the country this summer.

OPAS members RAY HASSARD
(top 100)
and SUSAN
ASTLEFORD (top 200) had works accepted
into the national PaintAmerica 2007. Ray had two
works accepted: one piece for the Top 100, the
other for the Mini 50 category, with the latter
given the Director's Choice award. The entire show

Charter Member EUNICE
BRONKAR had 3 paintings juried into the
Annual Retired Teachers Show in Columbus. The
show will run from 1/07/08 thru 2/23/08 at the
State Teachers Retirement Center, 275 E. Broad
St., Columbus, Ohio.
ELLIE MILLER
won "Best of Show" in the December show at the
Toledo Artists Club. The painting was
executed at an OPAS paintout last summer. I had such a good time
doing it that day, it seemed to be poetic
justice!
DEBRA JOYCE DAWSON
was awarded BEST OF SHOW and PURCHASE AWARD at
The Collage of Women Artists" juried exhibition
in Columbus. The purchase award went to Debra's
quick draw painting from the 2007 OPAS
competition.

Toledo Blade on Christmas Day 2007. Way to go Rick!
KAREN LaVALLEY
is exhibiting with her son and daughter in Columbus,
OH. Bill Mayr wrote about this unique exhibition
"Inherit, Inherent" in his Thursday, January 3rd
column of the Columbus Dispatch.
