Aida Garrity discovered her passion for painting at the tender age of five when her mother, Luisa Quintero, enrolled her in children’s art classes at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas, Venezuela. Although her heart lied in the arts, Aida’s commitment to excel in school took precedence and in 1974, she won a full-tuition scholarship to study at the Imperial College University of London where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering. In 2006, after thirty successful years in the engineering field, Aida decided pick up her paintbrushes and face the blank canvas that for so many years lay covered by a thin layer of plastic on her easel. With the encouragement of her family, Aida enrolled in the San Francisco Academy of Art University where she acquired her Masters in Fine Arts degree in 2010.
Inspired by life and beauty, Aida reflects her passion and interest in painting people by capturing and exploring their individual personalities, moods and emotions. And upon visiting the Norman Rockwell museum in Massachusetts, Aida was struck by Rockwell’s skill in rendering a dramatic story using everyday scenes, and thus, she strives to capture the same kind of rich narrative in her scenes from everyday life.
