Bob Maurer

Most of my landscape paintings are made in the arts and crafts tradition that was heavily influenced by the painters of the late 1800s and early 1900s, known as the California tonalists.  The medium of watercolors provides a versatility and a spontaneity that allow for a wide range of atmosphere in my paintings.

Some favorite atmospheres include fog, sunrises and sunsets.  Using muted tonal qualities, earthy colors and delicately balanced compositions I try to convey a sense of peace and tranquility, with a slight air of mystery.

Old vehicles and boats are often the subject of my watercolors, monotypes and drawings.

Architecture, especially historic structures, provides another favorite painting subject.
