Artist Statement : “Painting en plein air is the ultimate artist experience. There is such an amazing, almost spiritual, connection between subject and artist when the painting is done from life. I cannot explain it with words, but I believe it comes through in the finished painting .” Artist Statement : The artist has painted numerous works in various mediums, but her favorite medium is oils. Ruth Ann paints most of her landscapes on location, en plein air. She has always had a great love for the outdoors and has found a winning combination of getting to create her art while soaking up the ambiance that nature so freely offers, be it snow, fog or sunshine. Battling the elements is a big part of the experience. The artist has traveled across the U.S. and Canada teaching workshops and has studied under notable artists such as Joe Fettingis, Fredric Del Guidace, Daniel Greene and at the Liliedahl School of Fine Art in Houston, where she earned certification in landscape and still life. Her work can be found in many private, as well as corporate collections. Several of her original designed and hand painted ornaments are a part of the permanent collection of The White House, and the Governor of Ohio’s residence. Ruth Ann is vice president of Ohio Plein
Air Society, a founding member of The Potpourri of Painter’s Society, and
is the founder and executive director of The Visual Arts Network. She
served for a number of years on the exhibition committee of Artspace Lima
and currently is responsible for installing exhibitions there and also in
the new satellite gallery at St. Rita’s Medical Center, in Lima. Personal Website : http://www.ruthannsturgill.com
