Athens county literature was provided along with plenty of
courtesy, friendship, and introductions. Lee, Bill, and I met up
with Kit Dailey who joined us and became our guide and led us to a
great mill site where we set up on the opposite side of the river
at the HABITAT for HUMANITY center, where we spent about 5 windy
hours, doing our thing. I enjoyed the output of our groups efforts
. . . thus I say it was a venture well worth the time and effort.

State Park Overview:
The quiet and relaxing atmosphere
of Kiser Lake State Park makes it a favorite Ohio getaway. The
rolling wooded hills and diverse wetlands add to the beauty of
this scenic lake known for its clean, clear waters.
Nature of the Area:
The area surrounding Kiser Lake State Park is a gift of the ice
age. Two natural phenomena caused by the glaciers helped shape the
region into its present form. The gently, rolling wooded hills
were caused by glacial deposits in the form of end moraines when
the ice edge remained stationary for a period of time, creating a
linear ridge along the ice front. One such moraine called the
Farmersville surrounds the lake on three sides creating a hummocky
elevation through the area. Moraine deposits contain boulders,
some weighing many tons, carried from as far away as Canada. These
boulders, called erratics, are a familiar sight at Kiser. Another
geologic
feature at Kiser Lake State Park is the kame field at the
southeastern end of the lake. Kames are mounds of sand and gravel
that are formed by meltwater flowing across glacial ice. The water
deposits sediment into holes along the ice margin leaving behind
hummocky mounds.
The wetlands at Kiser are in the form of fen and wet meadow
habitat. These areas were formed when blocks of ice broke away
from the glacier and became covered by sand and gravel. As the
climate warmed, the ice melted and left a depression filled with
water surrounded by glacial deposits. These areas are filled with
many intriguing plants including pitcher plant, sundew, tamarack
and spruce.

Hotel Lakeside:
Heritage Suite
The Heritage Suite category is the top of the line accommodation
at Hotel Lakeside. Each suite displays classic Victorian
antiques as well as comfort furniture and contemporary
amenities. All Heritage Suites offer king or queen bedding with
bed and bath linen upgrades.
Peninsula Room
The Peninsula Room category consists mainly of larger Hotel
rooms which have been recently updated or are of a higher
standard. Many of these rooms have a view of Lake Erie.
Chautauqua Room
The Chautauqua Room category offers a variety of tastefully
decorated mid-size queen, full and double twin bed rooms, some
with lake views.
Family Room
The Family Room category consists of rooms with a combination of
full and single beds, along with a private bath.
Traditions Room
The Traditions Room category consists of original Hotel rooms.
These smaller rooms may contain queen, full or double twin beds,
all with a private bath.
Economy/Basic Rooms
The Economy and Basic Room categories contain the smaller
original Hotel rooms with less than a private bath. The Economy
class has a basin only while Basic Rooms contain a commode and
basin but no shower. A full bath is always available down the
hall. These are our most affordable rooms.
